The Chevy Colorado ZR2 Beats the Ford Raptor

When it comes to off-road specialty pickups, the Chevy Colorado ZR2 is arguably the better vehicle. Here’s why you should consider getting behind the wheel of the Colorado ZR2, driving it off the lot of Classic Chevrolet, and hitting up your favorite off road spots.

The ZR2 is Smaller

Bigger isn’t always better. When it comes to off-roading capabilities, this is doubly true. The Colorado ZR2 is a smaller, lighter, and more nimble truck compared to the Raptor, which means that you can go places in your Colorado ZR2 that wouldn’t be accessible if you were driving around a bulkier truck. Not to mention that the Colorado ZR2 is also nicer to drive in an urban setting when you’re not out on the trails, being easier to park and maneuver.

The ZR2 is More Flexible

Not only does the ZR2 have a diesel option that the Raptor lacks, but it’s more fuel efficient than the Raptor regardless of engine type. Additionally, you can put whatever you wish into your Colorado ZR2 whereas the Raptor requires pricey premium gasoline. So not only can you fill your Colorado ZR2 up for cheaper, but that tank of gas will last you longer.

The diesel option really takes the Colorado ZR2 to another level, however. It’s cheap compared to gas, gets better fuel efficiency, and makes your Colorado ZR2 climb and scramble in off-road settings like nothing else.

The ZR2 is Less Expensive

Chevy offers the ZR2 in two configurations: Extended Cab with a 6-foot bed; and the Crew Cab with four full-size doors and a 5-foot bed. For the Extended Cab, prices start at $40,995, including $995 for destination. The Crew Cab starts at $42,620.

Compare that to the Raptor, which starts out, base, at $52,375 plus an additional $1,295 for destination. That’s more than $11,000 than the base ZR2. Full load the Raptor and you’re looking at a truck that’s going to run you over 70 grand.
