Classic Chevrolet’s “Electric Avenue” Hosts the Arrival of the First 2017 Chevy Bolt EVs in Texas

Pictured, Craig Boland taking delivery of the 2017 Bolt EV from Richard D. “Buzz” Smith of Classic Chevrolet.

Classic Chevrolet, the largest volume Chevrolet dealer in the country for over a decade is leading the market with the newest all-electric vehicle to be offered by Chevrolet. The first 13 of 47 total 2017 Bolt EV’s on order arrived late last week and eager customers were ready to take delivery at Classic Chevrolet’s “Electric Avenue,” a building dedicated solely to hybrid and electric vehicle sales and service. “Richard D. “Buzz” Smith, self-proclaimed “EVangelist” and supervisor of Electric Avenue explains, “we built Electric Avenue exactly for days like this. We designed this building to give our customers a place to explain the technology with videos and experts on hand, more like an Apple store than a car dealership. These cars are loaded with technology that requires more than just handing someone the keys. This interactive environment allows for group discussions, informative videos and one-on-one tutorials.” A very early adopter of hybrid and plug-in technology himself, Buzz and his team are keenly aware of their fellow EV enthusiasts. “Our customers are uniquely linked together with a common desire to be more environmentally friendly and reduce their carbon footprint. Having a place for like-minded individuals to gather information and share their experiences is what Electric Avenue is all about. And with the first cars now arriving, today is an exciting day for all of us.”

One of Classic’s first customers to take delivery of his Bolt was Craig Boland of Arlington, who had been driving a Toyota Prius for 13 years, but was ready to make the leap to the all electric Chevrolet Bolt, impressed with it’s 238-mile range, affordable price and cargo space. “I was surprised that I couldn’t just go to any Chevrolet dealership and buy one,” explains Mr. Boland. “I went to my local Arlington Chevy dealer first and they explained that only dealerships with technicians certified to service the Bolt are allowed to sell them, and they immediately recommended Classic as the place to go.” Boland and fellow Bolt customer Michael Malone were impressed with Classic’s commitment to hybrid and plug-in technology. “They show far more than a passing interest in the future of electric vehicles,” said Malone, “this Electric Avenue building shows that Classic Chevrolet is all-in.”

The Bolt EV, 2017 Motor Trend Car of the Year, starts at just $29,995 after allowing for a $7500 federal tax rebate, and with a 238-mile range, Chevrolet is making affordable long-range transportation available to the masses with Classic leading the way with sales, service and Electric Avenue.

2014 Chevy Sonic Lineup

Chevrolet believes in giving you choices – lots of choices. That includes the new 2014 Chevrolet Sonic lineup, now available at Classic Chevrolet, gives you seven different choices – and that doesn’t include the two choices unveiled at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. The two new choices added to the current lineup include the 2014 Sonic RS sedan and the 2014 Sonic Dusk. You can expect to see them at dealerships sometime this spring.

2014 Sonic RS

In 2013, Chevrolet restricted the RS trim level to Sonic’s four-door hatchback. However, it gave the four-door sedan – in addition to the 2014 four-door hatchback – the RS trim. The sedan and the hatchback share the same features including 17-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels, taller rocker accents, a new front fascia and a lower ride height. Available colors include granite metallic, black or silver.

The interior features faux suede and leatherette with red contrast stitching on the seats, bespoke shift knob for vehicles with a manual transmission and aluminum pedal covers. The engine is the 1.4-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder that produce 138 horsepower. Automatic vehicles have a transmission with a unique final drive ratio, giving it more zip.

2014 Sonic Dusk

The 2014 Sonic Dusk was first introduced as a concept car back in 2011 at the SEMA show. Show-goers also saw an amended version of the Dusk at the 2012 SEMA show. It took two years for Chevrolet to come out with a model based on that concept, but it is finally here.

The Sonic Dusk features 18-inch matte silver aluminum wheels, upper and lower grille inserts with matte finish and a ground effects package. You can only order the vehicle as a sedan. The two-tone interior is Mojave accents on jet black. The seats have sueded microfiber accents and leather trim.

The Dusk is powered by Chevrolet’s 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that puts out 138 horsepower – the same engine in the RS models and many of Chevrolet’s other models. You can choose from a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission

For more information about the RS and the Dusk, visit Classic Chevrolet or keep an eye on this blog. If you don’t want to wait for these models to come out, stop by Classic Chevy to test drive one of the other 2014 Sonic models already on the lot.

Which State Loves Chevy The Most?

I would have sworn on my life that the state that had to most Chevy’s would be Texas…. Well, good thing I didn’t cause I would have been dead wrong! The team at using their expertise and skills put together some data that allowed them to figure out which states had the most Chevy’s in them. I think maybe some of the states that reached the top may surprise you. However, as you can tell by the map above it is evident that more Chevy’s are in the southwest! Where does your state lie on the list? If you are interested in test driving a new Chevy make sure you stop by your local Dallas Chevy dealer and we’ll take you for a take a test drive!

The talented Data Department is constantly producing inspiring graphics to help illustrate the complex dynamics of the auto industry. And sometimes they just make up these cool maps for us. Next in our continuing series of pointing out where brands live is Chevy. The bowtie brand sells especially well in the “hourglass” mid-section of the country, or anywhere trucks make up a high percentage of sales.

So that you can see how these listings of current car registrations over the past five years rank state to state, the over-achieving  Edmunds Data folk has also included a (now colored-coded) numeric ranking by state (after the jump).

Your Valet Nightmare Comes True!

Have you ever pulled up to the valet at a restaurant or bar and had a thought go through your mind about not leaving the car there? Hey, it’s ok we’ve all thought it. There have been a few occasions where I have opted to park it myself rather than giving my keys to a 18 year old kid. Well just wait until you read this story and watch this video because you may never give your car to the valet again. Thanks to Straightline for sharing this story! If it were me i’d press charges in a heart beat if I caught the valet tearing up my ZR1… That’s not even funny!

Okay, so this video happens to be a Dallas auto auction security guard and not a valet per se, but the idea is the same: Kid gets to drive a car from A-B. Takes the long, sideways way ’round. Everyone gets in trouble.

We had a friend in high school who was a valet for a small, but pricey restaurant in a New England vacation spot. Claimed he burned a Viper’s tires to cords while the elderly owner was enjoying his chowdah. Trouble is, the guy could barely drive his 5.0 Mustang without careering into a marsh. No way he drove a Viper without dying. But without a video camera handy, well, it was our sense against his word.

That’s where this guy comes in. You can brag all you want to your buddies that you screwed around with someone else’s 638 horsepower Corvette ZR1, but unless there’s video, who can truly say you did or did not. Maybe he just videoed the boss tossing it around? That base, too, is covered by the best part of this video– the driver exiting the car, throwing his hands in the air and finger-gunning the camera.

The guard has been fired and the Corvette’s owner–Woodhouse Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge near Omaha, Nebraska.– is pressing charges.

What Cars Made The List Of The Top 10 Cars For Family Travel? Do You Drive One?

Summer and winter holiday’s are the perfect time for families to start traveling. Everyone loves a good road trip right? You also want to be comfortable. Especially if you have children. When my wife, kids and I are going on a road trip we pretty much pack up our entire house. With that said, I was glad that Consumer Reports made the Chevrolet Traverse one of the top 10 vehicles for family travel. Not only did the Traverse score well on the road test from Consumer Reports but it also has good seating and cargo arrangements. It’s more than comfortable to ride in, scored well in all crash tests, and has proven reliable in owner surveys.

Chevrolet Traverse LT ($39,920)
The quiet, steady-riding Traverse handles well and offers plenty of room for people and cargo. Among the larger of the “mid-sized” SUVs, the Traverse has a third-row seat that’s comfortable even for adults. Rear visibility could be better, and fuel economy of 16 mpg is mediocre at best. – Consumer Reports.

Have you made it out and test driven the new Traverse yet? If you’ve got a big family this may just be the car for you. Let your Texas Chevy Dealer take you for a test drive. I don’t think you will be disappointed by any means of the word.

See The First Look At The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze!

The all new 2011 Chevrolet Cruze is on its way to your local Texas Chevy dealer. I wanted to give you a first look at how it drives, handles and let you know a little bit of what some of the critics are saying. The Chevrolet Cruze is going to be the replacement for the Chevrolet Cobalt and even though it is a smaller car, it has a big bite. Thanks to Consumer Reports for sharing their thoughts with us on the brand new Chevrolet Cruze. I don’t think you will be disappointed by any means of the word. Check out this story, watch the video and then weigh in with your thoughts on the brand new Chevy!

Chevrolet replaces the mediocre Cobalt this September with an all-new sedan, the Cruze. Already on sale in many markets around the globe, the Cruze will give the division a much more competitive small car in the States than in the past. We borrowed one recently to give our auto engineers a chance to preview this significant new model and share their impressions in this First Look video.

The Cruze will be offered with two engines: a base 1.8-liter, four-cylinder and an up-level 1.4-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder that has the potential to optimize performance and fuel economy. Both the automatic and manual transmissions offered are six-speed units. Much of the marketing attention will be on the 1.4-liter turbo, with its promised 40 mpg on the highway.

However, the bigger story is that all Cruzes, regardless of trim level or engine, are a marked improvement over the outgoing rental-ready Cobalt. Most of GM’s recent small cars have been underwhelming, but in our time with the Cruze, we found it to feel substantial and much more refined.  We think the car handles well, with responsive steering and a well-controlled ride. Noise levels are relatively low, and the cabin feels roomy for the class. Price concerns aside, the Cruze has much promise, and we are looking forward to purchasing a production example and running it through our exhaustive test regimen when it goes on sale.

Let’s Make Some Beautiful Music Together. Cruze Style!!

Check out this video that Chevrolet put together showcasing the all new 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. It is one of the coolest videos I have seen in a while coming out of GM. This video features audio test footage captured in the soundproof anechoic chamber during the development of the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze.
