Classic Chevy Recognized Among the Top Chevy Dealers of 2016

General Motors names Classic Chevrolet to its exclusive Chevrolet Dealer of the Year list.

The program honors 50 Chevrolet dealers from across the country, 10 per region, based on exceptional performance in sales, service and customer satisfaction. Classic Chevrolet has now been the recipient of this award for 16 consecutive years.

“Chevrolet dealers play a pivotal role in the brand’s overall success and their commitment to delivering exceptional service has once again been recognized as among the best in the industry by J.D. Power,” said Brian Sweeney, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet. “Our top 50 dealers this year have gone above and beyond to provide their customers the best possible total ownership experience. We sincerely appreciate and applaud their efforts.”

Dealers must also show a long-term commitment to retaining and providing customers with exceptional service using Genuine GM Parts.

“At Classic Chevrolet our goal is to earn customers for life and we are so honored to have our efforts recognized,” said Ken Thompson of The Thompson Group at Chevrolet. “This award is a testament to the entire team’s dedication to making sure every touch point we have with our Chevrolet customers exceeds their expectations.”

GM has recognized dealerships in the U.S. with this honor since 2000. Classic Chevrolet has earned the award every year since its inception.

Over 95 percent of Chevrolet’s current product portfolio is less than two years old, offering North Texas customers the latest technologies and safety features. Part of this lineup includes the Chevrolet Camaro and the Chevrolet Colorado which won Motor Trend’s 2016 Car and Truck of the Year awards.

Classic Chevrolet’s “Electric Avenue” Hosts the Arrival of the First 2017 Chevy Bolt EVs in Texas

Classic Chevrolet, the largest volume Chevrolet dealer in the country for over a decade is leading the market with the newest all-electric vehicle to be offered by Chevrolet. The first 13 of 47 total 2017 Bolt EV’s on order arrived late last week and eager customers were ready to take delivery at Classic Chevrolet’s “Electric Avenue,” a building dedicated solely to hybrid and electric vehicle sales and service. “Richard D. “Buzz” Smith, self-proclaimed “EVangelist” and supervisor of Electric Avenue explains, “we built Electric Avenue exactly for days like this. We designed this building to give our customers a place to explain the technology with videos and experts on hand, more like an Apple store than a car dealership. These cars are loaded with technology that requires more than just handing someone the keys. This interactive environment allows for group discussions, informative videos and one-on-one tutorials.” A very early adopter of hybrid and plug-in technology himself, Buzz and his team are keenly aware of their fellow EV enthusiasts. “Our customers are uniquely linked together with a common desire to be more environmentally friendly and reduce their carbon footprint. Having a place for like-minded individuals to gather information and share their experiences is what Electric Avenue is all about. And with the first cars now arriving, today is an exciting day for all of us.”

One of Classic’s first customers to take delivery of his Bolt was Craig Boland of Arlington, who had been driving a Toyota Prius for 13 years, but was ready to make the leap to the all electric Chevrolet Bolt, impressed with it’s 238-mile range, affordable price and cargo space. “I was surprised that I couldn’t just go to any Chevrolet dealership and buy one,” explains Mr. Boland. “I went to my local Arlington Chevy dealer first and they explained that only dealerships with technicians certified to service the Bolt are allowed to sell them, and they immediately recommended Classic as the place to go.” Boland and fellow Bolt customer Michael Malone were impressed with Classic’s commitment to hybrid and plug-in technology. “They show far more than a passing interest in the future of electric vehicles,” said Malone, “this Electric Avenue building shows that Classic Chevrolet is all-in.”

The Bolt EV, 2017 Motor Trend Car of the Year, starts at just $29,995 after allowing for a $7500 federal tax rebate, and with a 238-mile range, Chevrolet is making affordable long-range transportation available to the masses with Classic leading the way with sales, service and Electric Avenue.

Classic Chevrolet of Houston Joins Classic Family of Dealerships

Tom Durant, the owner of Classic Chevrolet, the nation’s #1 volume Chevrolet dealer for eight consecutive years, purchased Allen Samuels Chevrolet. The total number of dealerships owned by Durant Auto Group is now 12; and the newly purchased dealership makes Durant’s third dealership in the Houston/Galveston market.

Classic Chevrolet of Houston, the new name for Allen Samuels Chevrolet, was officially opened by managing partner Joel Rogers on April 21, 2014. According to Durant,

“Our business model has always been to treat our customers not as a one-time profit opportunity, but as a lifetime customer who appreciates being treated fairly. If you treat people well and give them a fair deal, they will come back and your store will succeed. That’s what has made us successful at all of our dealerships, including Classic Chevrolet Sugar Land and Classic Auto Group Galveston.

Joel Rogers, wife Sunshine and their son settled in the Richmond area and quickly made Houston their home. Rogers said, “From day one, we will be very active in the local community. Giving back to the community is a hallmark of the entire organization.” He also stated,

“And when it comes to sales and service, we put respect and honesty at the highest priority. Customers can expect to find a great selection at a fair price with no hidden upcharges. Our goal is to attain the same repeat and referral business that has made Classic Chevrolet #1 in the nation for so many years.

Classic Chevrolet is unique in that the sales people are able to handle an entire transaction with the customer without playing the “Let me check with the manager” game that many other dealerships still practice. The Classic Chevy group of dealerships is very transparent and genuine – and all of the dealerships feature a relaxed atmosphere. Employees wear jeans in the winter and shorts in the summer – and that tradition will continue at the new Houston store.

Classic Chevrolet of Houston is located at the Hillcroft exit on the Southwest Freeway; and it is just minutes from Bellaire and the Galleria. Rogers expects to sell 250 brand new Chevrolet models and up to 120 pre-owned vehicles per month.

Service, parts and collision repair facilities at Classic Chevrolet of Houston are all ready for a smooth transition for the store’s current customers. Rogers stated that the staff at Classic Chevrolet is excited to serve the Houston market and to build long-lasting relationships with the customers.

Classic Chevy Parts Department

Our vision statement, be the best at everything we do, is what made us sell more Chevrolet vehicles than any other Chevy dealer in the country for the last eight consecutive years – and it is what made us the largest volume Chevrolet parts department. And, according to Tom Cross, our parts manager, we plan on keeping that #1 spot for the foreseeable futures.

On February 18, 2014, a delegation of GM executives gathered at Classic Chevrolet to formally present us with the honor of being the largest parts department in the nation. Not only are we the largest, but we also outsold everyone else.

“There are more than 4000 GM dealers in the country, and you are the largest by far,” said John Bolton, GM Customer Care & Aftersales Wholesale Zone Manager.  “You handedly outsold every one of them.” Bolton went on to say “And here’s something that you may not realize.  I looked back on the records and this is the first time ever that the nation’s #1 Volume Chevy Dealer for Sales is also the nation’s #1 GM Dealer for Parts!  For as long as GM has been keeping records, I can honestly tell you that this has never happened before.  It is a testament to the team that  [owner] Tom Durant has built and the culture that everyone at Classic has created.”

Classic Chevy broke a GM record this year – we are the nation’s #1 volume Chevy dealer for sales and the #1 GM dealer for parts. This has never happened since GM has been keeping records.

On top of being the best at car sales and parts sales, we rank in the highest 2 percent for customer satisfaction – and have done so for 11 consecutive years.

Hey DFW, Say Hello to the 2013 Chevy Camaro ZL1

Ft Worth Chevy dealerHey DFW Camaro lovers, I have some exciting news. Earlier today, Chevrolet announced that its most-powerful convertible ever, the 2013 Camaro ZL1, will debut at the LA Auto show next month. According to a press release issued by General Motors, this Camaro will deliver more performance and technology than many exotic cars and ultra-luxury convertibles. I told you I had exciting news!

The ZL1 will be powered by a 580-horsepower LSA 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine, so I’m sure Camaro Chief Engineer, Al Oppenheiser, wasn’t kidding when he said, “This is a car that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face every time you drop the top – or hit the gas.”

The convertible will share all its characteristics and engine parts with the 2012 ZL1 coupe model which recently lapped the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife course in 7:41.27 minutes. The only changes we’ll see are a tower brace under the hood, a transmission reinforcement brace, an underbody tunnel brace and a set of X and V braces under the body. All of these are aimed at stiffening the chassis to better handle and apply all the power the LSA generates. Check out this video of the 2012 Camaro ZL1 at Nordschleife.

Are you getting excited yet? The ZL1 convertible will most likely be available for purchase in the late months of 2012. Until then, I’ll be sure to keep you posted on the latest updates!

Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) Says Texting Doubles a Driver’s Reaction Time

Dallas Ft Worth Chevy dealerWe’ve all heard of the dangers of texting while driving time and time again, but there are still those who continue to do it. Hopefully, my fellow Chevy DFW drivers out there have taken this matter seriously. If not, time to listen up. A new study coming to us from the Aggies shows these dangers are far worse than most experts believe.

Earlier this week, the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI), an agency of the Texas A&M University System, released a report revealing that reading or sending a text message while driving doubles a driver’s reaction time.  The study consisted of 42 drivers between the ages of 16 and 54.

First, participants were asked to drive a course with and without texting, and their reaction times to a periodic flashing light were recorded. Without texting, reaction times fell between one and two seconds. With texting, the reaction times doubled to three and four seconds. Furthermore, drivers were more than 11 times likely to miss the light all together when texting.

As the drivers’ reaction times were being recorded, their ability to maintain proper lane position and speed was also being measured. The results showed that drivers were less able to:

  • safely maintain their position in the driving lane when they were texting.  Plus, their swerving was worse in the open sections of the course.
  • maintain a constant speed while texting, tending to slow down in an effort to reduce the demand of the multiple tasks. By slowing down, a driver gains more time to correct for driving errors (such as the tendency to swerve while texting). Speed variance was also greater for texting drivers than for non-texting drivers.

[tti.tamu.edu]

Christine Yager, an associate transportation researcher in TTI’s Center for Transportation Safety who managed the study said, “Most research on texting and driving has been limited to driving simulators. This study involved participants driving an actual vehicle. So one of the more important things we know now that we didn’t know before is that response times are even slower than we previously thought.”

Research doesn’t lie, friends. It’s a fact that texting while driving slows reaction time. So why risk you an accident in your new Chevy to send or read a measly little text message? Surely your life is worth than that.

The 1965 Chevy Corvette Shines in the Fast Five Movie

Chevrolet DFWEven if you’re not a fan of The Fast and The Furious movie franchise, you’ve got to at least check out the fifth movie, Fast Five, for the cars alone. The list is long and ranges from 1960s classics to 2011 models. I’m sure you won’t be surprised to know that my favorite on the list is the 1965 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport. You could probably say I’m a little biased, but even Dennis McCarthy, one of the most well-known picture car coordinators in the business, calls it the “Hero Car”. And with good reason.

Built by Mongoose Motorsports, this replica of a Grand Sport features the Chevrolet 502 big block backed by a Borg Warner Super T-10 four-speed transmission and rides on CS Corvette suspension. Here’s a breakdown of the car’s role in the movie from Dennis McCarthy himself.

According to McCarthy, all of the Fast Five vehicles had a pretty rough life on set. The only ones still drivable were the Hero and two stunt cars. If you haven’t seen the movie yet and you’re a car lover like me, I definitely recommend you check it out. Here’s a scene from the movie featuring the Corvette. Enjoy!

How to Handle Yourself When Getting Pulled Over

New Chevrolet DFWThere’s nothing worse than the feeling you get when you’re being pulled over.  Whether or not you’ve broken a traffic law or may have a headlight out you’re unaware of, it can be stressful seeing those red and blues flashing behind you. If you know how to handle the situation, it’ll be easier for you to remain calm and possibly up your chances of receiving a ticket.

First and foremost when you see the police’s lights behind you, signal and pull over to the side of the road. Make sure you pull as far over to the right as possible without putting your entire vehicle in the grass. Be sure you don’t do this too quickly though, you don’t want the officer to have to slam on his brakes.

Once you’ve pulled over, go ahead and turn off the car. Roll your window down and place your hands on the wheel. If it’s night time, turn on one of the interior lights. A lot of times people will have their license and registration ready for the officer by the time he gets there. However, I would recommend waiting until he asks you for it. That way, it doesn’t look like you are rummaging about in the vehicle.

When the officer comes to your window, don’t speak first. I’m sure you’ve all seen people in movies saw “What seems to be the problem, officer?” This can come off sarcastic or cocky regardless of how you meant it. Answer all of the officer’s questions with “yes, sir” or “yes, mam”. This is common courtesy in any situation.

I’ve heard that one of the first things officers learn is to make up their minds on whether or not to give a ticket before leaving their vehicle. However, you have nothing to lose by being extremely polite and cooperative. You never know, you may be let off with a warning for your little four mph over offense in your new Chevy.
