Tom Durant Named Chairman of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association 2018

Texas native and owner of Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine, Texas, as well as 20 other car dealerships across Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida, Tom Durant has been elected as Chairman of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association for 2018.

The TADA is the statewide trade association representing over 1,300 franchised automobile dealerships in nearly 300 communities throughout the state of Texas. TADA advocates on behalf of the dealers at the Texas Legislature, Congress, and all regulatory agencies.

As leader of the association, Tom Durant explains his inspiration to represent the Texas franchised auto dealers.  “There are legitimate concerns about our future and the changes that are occurring. I have great respect for Bill Wolters (TADA President) and his staff because they have put together a great organization, one that I am very proud to be a part of. As dealers we all have a responsibility to self-govern and make good decisions. The TADA makes that process a lot easier.  It’s important for us as members to understand the complexities of the franchised dealer challenges in today’s market and to be the clear and concise voice on their behalf while also understanding government influences, market trends and the overall landscape of the industry. TADA makes that a more realistic endeavor. Because of what TADA does, we as dealers can sell and service cars, impact our communities and make a positive difference.”

Chairman Durant will take the office at a time when strong leadership is crucial.  “There is no doubt we are facing unprecedented threats to the future of the Texas franchised dealer network with new industry players and third parties intervening between the customer and the dealer,” says Mr. Durant.  “The disruption of the franchised dealer network as we know it would have a profound effect on the local, state and national economy as well as a devastating effect on the individual communities we as dealers serve each day. And if you are not part of the solution, you become a part of the problem.  Getting involved at this level at the TADA for me was becoming part of the solution.”

Tom Durant, a man known for his keen vision, strong leadership and a genuine humility is undeniably the man for the job, but gives his team the credit for his nomination. “While it is a very personal honor to be named Chairman of the TADA, the recognition ultimately stems from the work our entire team has put in at all of Classic dealerships.”

Classic Chevrolet’s 6th Annual Steve Thompson Classic Golf Tournament Tops 2.5 Million Raised for Local Charities

In the words of Classic Chevrolet owner, Tom Durant at the 6th Annual Charity Check Presentation, “I never thought it would turn into what it is. It has become something that really makes a difference.” He was of course referring to the milestone $2.5 million dollars raised for local charities in just 6 years spearheaded by The Steve Thompson Classic Charity Golf Tournament named in honor of the late Steve Thompson of The Thompson Group at Classic. Since 2012 Classic Chevrolet employees have put on a charity golf tournament to raise money for local non-profits benefitting children in need, families facing challenges, orphans, the homeless, veterans and the disabled. A special committee formed by the employees of Classic Chevrolet chooses the charities and spends the entire year raising donations and planning the annual tournament. Every employee of Classic Chevrolet and The Thompson Group at Classic personally donate money through a payroll deduction program.

On November 22, 2017, the ceremony to distribute checks to now 14 local charities was held during a holiday luncheon attended by employees, charity representatives, sponsors and invited guests. The 2017 Steve Thompson Classic has raised another $200,000 again matched dollar for dollar by Tom and Susan Durant for a total of $400,000 bringing the total donations raised since 2012 to $2.5 million. The 14 charities include 6 Stones Mission Network, The Angel Fund of Trinity High School, RISE, GRACE, Food for the Soul, V.A.S.T., Community Storehouse, Neuro Assistance, Clubhouse for Special Needs, Miracle League, Unite for the Troops, Chari-T-2000, Heroes on the Water and Finding Me Global Academy.

Tim Lynch, commercial manager for The Thompson Group at Classic and chairman of this year’s Classic charity committee addressed the crowd, “These fourteen charities represent our community. They make us better people, they make us a better community, they make us a better dealership. After all, what they do is simply help people. As a dealership, that is also our goal, not just to sell something but instead to help someone. Together we can make a dynamic difference.”

What You Need to Know About the Pure Electric Chevy Bolt

Chevy is shaking things up for 2017, and the introduction of the all-electric 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV is guaranteed to change the auto industry forever. The Chevy Bolt is a seriously convenient car, especially if you live in the city. Whether you’re a daily commuter or just need a vehicle to run errands with, the Chevy Bolt may just be the ultimate urban vehicle.

Here’s what you should know about the purely electric Chevy Bolt.

1. It’s All Electric

Chevrolet obsessed over creating the 2017 Bolt EV, and it shows. This all-electric vehicle can travel an estimated 200 miles per charge, so you don’t have to worry about recharging while you’re at work or out running errands.

2. You Can Charge At Home

Skeptics have been steering clear of electric vehicles for years, but that’s because charging hasn’t been made as simple as it is with the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV. A 240-volt charging unit can be purchased and professionally installed at your home, so charging your vehicle is as simple as charging your smartphone. The available unit will charge your Bolt EV faster than the competition and makes customizing your charge settings easy. Best of all, you can still use public charging stations while you’re away.

A full charge on the available 240-volt unit requires just 9 hours, and you can reach up to 25 miles of range per hour of charge.

3. You Can Stay Connected Everywhere You Go

The 2017 Chevy Bolt EV offers technology in every nook and cranny. The standard 10.2-inch center display screen provides important information, including your battery levels, estimated range, climate controls, charge settings, music, calls and text messages. The interactive screen looks and operates like a tablet, so you can easily access all of your phone and battery’s information.

4. Safety Comes First

Technology isn’t worth anything if you and your fellow travelers aren’t safe inside your vehicle. The 2017 Chevy Bolt EV provides peace of mind with 10 air bags, a high-strength steel frame, available forward, side and rear alerts, OnStar advisors and automatic crash response. Chevy’s available Surround Vision camera system utilize four optimally-placed cameras to help you see what’s happening on all sides of your vehicle at all times. Whether you’re taking the kids to school, dropping your pet at the groomer or driving solo to work, you can rest assured that your Chevy is constantly working to keep you and your cargo safe.

5. Your Vehicle Will Turn Heads

Unlike other electric vehicles, the Chevy Bolt EV doesn’t turn heads because it looks funny. This all-electric hatch back vehicle features expressive proportions, stylish curves and an enclosed, flat underbelly that will turn heads — in a good way.

Find it at Classic Chevrolet

The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV will undoubtedly be ahead of the curve. Reach out to our Classic Chevrolet sales team to find out how you can be one of the first to own it.

Classic Chevy Recognized Among the Top Chevy Dealers of 2016

General Motors names Classic Chevrolet to its exclusive Chevrolet Dealer of the Year list.

The program honors 50 Chevrolet dealers from across the country, 10 per region, based on exceptional performance in sales, service and customer satisfaction. Classic Chevrolet has now been the recipient of this award for 16 consecutive years.

“Chevrolet dealers play a pivotal role in the brand’s overall success and their commitment to delivering exceptional service has once again been recognized as among the best in the industry by J.D. Power,” said Brian Sweeney, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet. “Our top 50 dealers this year have gone above and beyond to provide their customers the best possible total ownership experience. We sincerely appreciate and applaud their efforts.”

Dealers must also show a long-term commitment to retaining and providing customers with exceptional service using Genuine GM Parts.

“At Classic Chevrolet our goal is to earn customers for life and we are so honored to have our efforts recognized,” said Ken Thompson of The Thompson Group at Chevrolet. “This award is a testament to the entire team’s dedication to making sure every touch point we have with our Chevrolet customers exceeds their expectations.”

GM has recognized dealerships in the U.S. with this honor since 2000. Classic Chevrolet has earned the award every year since its inception.

Over 95 percent of Chevrolet’s current product portfolio is less than two years old, offering North Texas customers the latest technologies and safety features. Part of this lineup includes the Chevrolet Camaro and the Chevrolet Colorado which won Motor Trend’s 2016 Car and Truck of the Year awards.

Classic Chevrolet’s “Electric Avenue” Hosts the Arrival of the First 2017 Chevy Bolt EVs in Texas

Pictured, Craig Boland taking delivery of the 2017 Bolt EV from Richard D. “Buzz” Smith of Classic Chevrolet.

Classic Chevrolet, the largest volume Chevrolet dealer in the country for over a decade is leading the market with the newest all-electric vehicle to be offered by Chevrolet. The first 13 of 47 total 2017 Bolt EV’s on order arrived late last week and eager customers were ready to take delivery at Classic Chevrolet’s “Electric Avenue,” a building dedicated solely to hybrid and electric vehicle sales and service. “Richard D. “Buzz” Smith, self-proclaimed “EVangelist” and supervisor of Electric Avenue explains, “we built Electric Avenue exactly for days like this. We designed this building to give our customers a place to explain the technology with videos and experts on hand, more like an Apple store than a car dealership. These cars are loaded with technology that requires more than just handing someone the keys. This interactive environment allows for group discussions, informative videos and one-on-one tutorials.” A very early adopter of hybrid and plug-in technology himself, Buzz and his team are keenly aware of their fellow EV enthusiasts. “Our customers are uniquely linked together with a common desire to be more environmentally friendly and reduce their carbon footprint. Having a place for like-minded individuals to gather information and share their experiences is what Electric Avenue is all about. And with the first cars now arriving, today is an exciting day for all of us.”

One of Classic’s first customers to take delivery of his Bolt was Craig Boland of Arlington, who had been driving a Toyota Prius for 13 years, but was ready to make the leap to the all electric Chevrolet Bolt, impressed with it’s 238-mile range, affordable price and cargo space. “I was surprised that I couldn’t just go to any Chevrolet dealership and buy one,” explains Mr. Boland. “I went to my local Arlington Chevy dealer first and they explained that only dealerships with technicians certified to service the Bolt are allowed to sell them, and they immediately recommended Classic as the place to go.” Boland and fellow Bolt customer Michael Malone were impressed with Classic’s commitment to hybrid and plug-in technology. “They show far more than a passing interest in the future of electric vehicles,” said Malone, “this Electric Avenue building shows that Classic Chevrolet is all-in.”

The Bolt EV, 2017 Motor Trend Car of the Year, starts at just $29,995 after allowing for a $7500 federal tax rebate, and with a 238-mile range, Chevrolet is making affordable long-range transportation available to the masses with Classic leading the way with sales, service and Electric Avenue.

The Most Popular New Year’s Resolutions of 2017

2017 goals list on napkin

Gyms become more crowded, Amazon sells more books and people start stuffing a few extra dollars into their piggy banks. A new year means a fresh start, and that’s why many Americans choose to make resolutions for the New Year. Some resolutions have proven to be more popular than others over the years, and these 10 are some that you’re guaranteed to hear your friends choosing in 2017.

1. Read more books. As smartphones and tablets begin to take the place of books, many Americans are hoping to revert back to the basics. The resolution to read more books is one that continues to be in the top 10 year after year.

2. Lose weight. Gyms overflow in January every year, but losing weight can be a tough resolution to keep. However, there’s no doubt that losing weight is on just about every list of the hottest New Year’s resolutions.

3. Quit smoking. The more studies come out about how bad smoking is for everyone’s health, the more people are trying to quit. Quitting smoking can be difficult, but it’s a resolution that many smokers will try year after year until their goal is accomplished.

4. Save money. Saving money is on a lot of people’s minds after the holiday spending has ceased. Paying off debts and saving more money is a resolution that many choose in the New Year, but it also means a commitment to a change of lifestyle.

5. Eat healthier. Eating healthy is difficult for many busy Americans, but the vow to eat more fruits and vegetables or change junk food eating habits entirely is seen as a positive way to start the New Year.

6. Live with less stress. Stress is something that drags many people down everyday, and removing that stress can mean a happier and more productive lifestyle. However, relieving stress can be one of the most difficult resolutions to keep.

7. Travel more often. Traveling is a way of incorporating more relaxation, adventure and culture into your life, and it’s hard to see a downside of escaping work and everyday stresses more often. Although, it’s important to keep in mind that traveling more often means keeping better track of your budget too.

8. Give to more charities. Whether it’s time, money, clothing or other means of donating, many people vow to help others more in the new year.

9. Spend less time on Facebook. This relatively new resolution has gained popularity as Facebook has become accessible everywhere we go. Spending less time on Facebook could result in higher levels of productivity, especially when you’re tempted by social media at work.

10. Try an extreme sport. For many, a new year means new adventures, and bigger and better adventures can mean a more amazing year than the last. Bungee jumping, skydiving and other adventure sports require courage from the participant, but these activities are found rewarding to those who have a little bit of adrenaline junkie inside.

Make 2017 the best year yet with a new or used Chevy from Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine, Texas.
