Road Trip Activities for Kids

The holidays are basically here and that means you might be one of millions of families embarking on a road trip this weekend. When planning for a road trip with children, you’ll need to pack something for them to do while in the vehicle. If you don’t, they’ll get bored and start fighting with each other – or you’ll never hear the end of “Are we there yet?” Fun activities will help the time fly by for them, and before they know it, you’ll be at your destination.

Another item you need to do before you leave is to have your vehicle serviced or checked. If you have service that might be due during your trip or shortly after your return, it’s a good idea to have that done before you leave. If you just had your vehicle serviced, it’s still a good idea to have everything checked at Classic Chevrolet before you leave.

Write a Book

Staple several pages of paper together to form a book. Give each child a favorite topic and have them write a book. For younger kids, have them create a picture book – be sure to pack crayons or water-soluble markers. For older kids, have them write a book on their tablets.

Make a Deck of Cards

Cut out card-sized pieces of heavy construction paper ahead of time so kids won’t have to use scissors while in a moving vehicle. Have the kids make their own decks of cards for Go Fish and Memory games. Create the cards in the vehicle, then play the games when you get to your destination.

Make a Windchime

Get the parts to create a windchime. Have the children string it up on the trip. If you get plain wood, they can decorate the wooden part. Or, have them string beads together for the top part of the chime.

Make Jewelry

Bring each child a kit to make jewelry. Have them make necklaces and bracelets for themselves and their friends.

The 5 Signs You Know You Need to Change Your Windshield Wipers

Windshield wipers don’t last forever, and when they fail, they can cause serious vehicle safety issues. Fully-functioning windshield wipers make driving in undesirable weather conditions easier, so you can arrive at your destination safely and on time. These five signs that prove you need to change your windshield wipers could save you from a number of inconveniences and dangers down the road.

1. Check for smears or streaks. If your wipers are causing smears or streaks on your windshield, it’s likely you need new wiper blades. Listen carefully for scraping or chattering sounds when you use your wipers. These sounds are also indications that you should replace your wipers before they fail and leave you in a difficult situation.

2. Examine your wipers for dirt, debris or tears. Take a look at your wiper blades and wipe them with a damp cloth to help discover any tears or breaks in the rubber edge. Keep an eye out for anything that refrains your wiper from sliding snuggly against the glass.

3. Take note of your wipers while driving. You can tell a lot about the condition of your wipers when using them. If the blades are pulling away from your windshield when you’re traveling at high speeds, instead of resting tightly against the windshield, it’s likely they need to be replaced.

4. Examine the metal arm of the wiper to ensure it is not cracked or bent in any places. If you see any cracks or bent pieces, the wiper is probably not resting properly on your windshield and is creating the smears you see and chattering sounds you hear when using them.

5. You haven’t changed them in more than 6 months. Most wipers need replacing after roughly 6 months of use. This is usually when they begin to lose their snug fitting and fail to provide clear vision when driving in rain and other undesirable weather conditions. Fortunately, windshield wipers are an inexpensive vehicle accessory, especially here at Classic Chevrolet, and they can be changed in a matter of seconds.

Visit Classic Chevrolet

There’s no reason to worry if you experience any of the above difficulties with your vehicle. Simply bring your car, truck or SUV to Classic Chevrolet, and our certified service repair team will replace your wipers quickly and affordably. We can also inspect your entire vehicle to determine what precautions you need to take to keep your vehicle in top condition. 5 Reasons Why You Should Get a New Camaro This Christmas

Not that you need much reason to own one of the strongest, fastest, and funnest cars on the road this Christmas, but there are certainly some good reasons to own one. The 2018 Camaro is better than ever and it’s available right now at Classic Chevrolet. Come in and test drive it today and we’re sure you’ll agree that the Camaro is the car for you.

1. It’s Affordable

The 2018 Camaro won’t set your bank account back as much as other cars in its class. Starting out under $26,000, a 2018 Camaro might be more in your reach than you think. Not to mention that the base model comes with plenty of standard entertainment, performance, and safety features.

2. It’s Head Turning

There’s no denying that the Camaro is a great looking car. If you want to turn heads wherever you go, you need to get behind the wheel of a Camaro. With its retro-futuristic good looks, distinctive headlights, and muscular bearing, it commands respect on the road.

3. It’s Powerful

With a couple of powerful engine options, including the available V-8, and either an automatic gearbox or six-speed manual transmission, the 2018 Camaro is one fast car. If you want to cruise the highway in a sleek and powerful ride, leave it to the Camaro to provide.

4. It’s Just Plain Fun to Drive

It’s a bit subjective, but it’ll feel objective when you’re behind the wheel giving the Camaro a test drive. The Camaro handles beautifully thanks, in part, to the fact that it’s heavier than a traditional sports car. This means that you hug the road like you’ve never experienced. Even at higher speeds it can handle curves in the road like they’re nothing.

5. Did We Mention There’s a Convertible Option?

Well there is. If you love that classic wind in your hair driving experience, don’t forget to ask for a convertible 2018 Camaro.

Haul All the Presents with Chevy Cargo Space

Christmas is coming up pretty soon now. Maybe you’ve already taken care of your shopping list because you’re super organized and on the ball. Or, perhaps, you’re in the boat with the rest of us mere mortals: you haven’t bought a thing and still haven’t gotten around to asking everybody what they might want.

In either case, shopping means you need space in your vehicle to transport gifts from the mall back home to be wrapped and placed under the tree (if you haven’t put up your tree yet, there’s only so much we can do to help you!).

This is why you need a Chevy. Chevy SUVs and trucks offer tons of cargo space, whether you need to stuff a bunch of gifts into your trunk or haul some materials for your next DIY home improvement project.

2018 Chevy Traverse

The 2018 Chevy Traverse has best-in-class maximum cargo space of 98.2 cubic feet. That’s more than some SUVs in the full-class segment! Not only that, but the Traverse can seat up to eight people. From hauling presents to transporting people, the Traverse can handle nearly any task when it comes to room.

2018 Chevy Equinox

The 2018 Chevy Equinox is the smaller, more economical cousin to the Traverse. When you don’t need quite as much vehicle as the Traverse, the Equinox can offer you 63.5 cubic feet of maximum cargo volume and seating for up to five people

2018 Chevy Tahoe

On the other hand, if you feel like you need more room to stretch your legs, the eight seater Tahoe is the way to go. It’s got comparable cargo volume to the Traverse at 94.7 cubic feet of maximum storage space.

Visit Classic Chevrolet

For those who haven’t shopped yet, here’s your silver lining: there’s still time to get into a brand new Chevy SUV or truck before you have to go Christmas shopping. Stop by Classic Chevrolet today to give one a test drive and to find one that’s perfect for your hauling needs all year long. Not to mention a new Chevy makes a great gift to yourself. Hey, you’ve been nice this past year, right? Reward yourself with a trip to Classic Chevy.

Our Top 9 Picks for Car Accessory Gifts

Close Up Of Hand Scraping Icer From Car Windshield With Scraper

Whether you just bought or leased a new vehicle from Classic Chevy or you have a newer Chevy and are not ready for something new just yet, or if you just know someone who has a Chevy, try gifting one of these useful accessories this holiday season.

Floor Mats

You may have carpeted floor mats in your Chevy now, but during the winter, you should have rubber floor mats to protect the carpet from melting snow and slush on your feet. And, at some point, the snow and ice will melt, giving way to mud, which will eventually stain the carpets, especially if you have clay.

Ice Scraper

An ice scraper with a brush comes in handy on snowy mornings or even mornings that have a heavy frost. Instead of waiting for the defroster to melt everything, you can give it a hand by scraping the frost, ice or snow from the windshield. You’ll be ready to go by the time your Chevy warms up; and you’ll be safe because of better visibility.

Even if you park in a garage at home and at work, you should have an ice scraper and brush. If it starts to snow while you are shopping or parked elsewhere in an open lot, that brush and scraper will come in handy.

Plug-in Coffee Cup

The last thing you need on a long commute on a cold day is cold coffee, tea or hot cocoa. Instead of having your hot drink cool off too fast, get a coffee cup that plugs into the cigarette lighter so you have a hot drink all the way to your destination.

Come-a-Long

Most people don’t think of this, but carrying a come-a-long and some extra chain in the trunk could get you out of a bind. If you end up sliding off the road, you’ll be able to pull yourself out of the ditch. You can attach the come-a-long to a tree or another vehicle if someone stops to help you out.

Windshield Snow Shade

Make cleaning the snow and ice off your windshield easier by installing a snow shade while you’re parked. It will also keep dangerous ultraviolet rays from cracking and fading the interior of your vehicle at the same time.

Traction Weight for Trucks

Driving a pickup in the winter could be challenging because the light rear end slides on slippery snow and ice. Add a traction weight to the bed of the truck to help stabilize the rear during inclement weather.

Snowplow Kit

This kit is great for your Chevy truck if you have a long driveway to plow or if you live on a back road that gets plowed last or not at all. The snowplow will help you get out of your driveway when the snow is too deep and dangerous to drive through.

Remote Start System

If you have a vehicle that did not come with a remote start, you could add your own remote start. If you remember to leave the defroster on when you leave the vehicle, you can start it about 10 minutes before you’re ready to leave so it’s nice and warm and so that it is easier to clear the windows.

Wireless Salt Spreader

Add a salt spreader to your winter vehicle accessories to spread salt on driveways that you need to keep clean. This is especially helpful if you have a long driveway that you would like to keep clear. You could even pretreat the driveway ahead of time to keep the snow and ice from building up too much.
