Besides the parade, there will be food and drinks and other street vendors.

Valentine’s Day – February 14

Valentine’s Day can’t be overlooked; it’s on a Wednesday this year, but that won’t slow anything down. The DFW metroplex is home to award-winning, world-class restaurants, so be sure to scope out the culinary landscape and make your reservations ASAP. Some establishments will be running Valentine Day specials if you want to snag a deal, so be sure to ask about those regardless of where you plan to go.

Chinese New Year Festival 2018 – February 17

February 16 marks the Chinese New Year and Dallas will host a parade commemorating it on February 17. 2018 is the Year of the Dog on the Chinese Lunar Calendar and the Crow Collection of Asian Art will host their 19th annual Chinese New Year Festival to celebrate. The festivities will be at NorthPark Center from 11am to 2pm and at Klyde Warren Park from 2pm to 8pm.

There will be art activities and demonstrations at both locations, as well as food and fireworks at Klyde Warren Park plus the main stage will be filled with a list of talented performers, old and new. Join in the fun at either location to say goodbye to the Year of the Rooster and ring in 2018 as the Year of the Dog, a year marked by loyalty, kindness, and love.

In order to honor the Year of the Dog, don’t forget to bring along your best dog friend to Klyde Warren Park for puppy portraits and pampering. In need of a furry companion? Don’t worry – they’ll have dog rescues out all day at the park including the SPCA of Texas, Dallas DogsRRR, and more.

Tom Durant Named Chairman of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association 2018

Texas native and owner of Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine, Texas, as well as 20 other car dealerships across Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida, Tom Durant has been elected as Chairman of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association for 2018.

The TADA is the statewide trade association representing over 1,300 franchised automobile dealerships in nearly 300 communities throughout the state of Texas. TADA advocates on behalf of the dealers at the Texas Legislature, Congress, and all regulatory agencies.

As leader of the association, Tom Durant explains his inspiration to represent the Texas franchised auto dealers.  “There are legitimate concerns about our future and the changes that are occurring. I have great respect for Bill Wolters (TADA President) and his staff because they have put together a great organization, one that I am very proud to be a part of. As dealers we all have a responsibility to self-govern and make good decisions. The TADA makes that process a lot easier.  It’s important for us as members to understand the complexities of the franchised dealer challenges in today’s market and to be the clear and concise voice on their behalf while also understanding government influences, market trends and the overall landscape of the industry. TADA makes that a more realistic endeavor. Because of what TADA does, we as dealers can sell and service cars, impact our communities and make a positive difference.”

Chairman Durant will take the office at a time when strong leadership is crucial.  “There is no doubt we are facing unprecedented threats to the future of the Texas franchised dealer network with new industry players and third parties intervening between the customer and the dealer,” says Mr. Durant.  “The disruption of the franchised dealer network as we know it would have a profound effect on the local, state and national economy as well as a devastating effect on the individual communities we as dealers serve each day. And if you are not part of the solution, you become a part of the problem.  Getting involved at this level at the TADA for me was becoming part of the solution.”

Tom Durant, a man known for his keen vision, strong leadership and a genuine humility is undeniably the man for the job, but gives his team the credit for his nomination. “While it is a very personal honor to be named Chairman of the TADA, the recognition ultimately stems from the work our entire team has put in at all of Classic dealerships.”

You Know You’re from DFW When…

If you are in the market for a new vehicle, stop by Classic Chevrolet to test drive the vehicle you need for your family, for work, or for the farm. Living in DFW, you’ve probably noticed that the Metroplex has its peculiarities. You know you’re a true native if you can relate to the following…

  • The traffic isn’t messing around. Hopefully you’ve got a good vehicle, because we all spend a lot of time in the driver’s seat.
  • And what’s up with the roads? They sure like to break them up, but then they forget to do anything afterwards!
  • No matter what the supposed season is, it’s best to bring a jacket along. And flip flops. And maybe an umbrella. And perhaps sunscreen. Just pack your closet is what we’re saying.
  • Even if you live east of Dallas or west of Fort Worth, you still struggle to decide which city to go to when you’re looking for a night out. Who can choose?
  • You know the four basic food groups and make sure you get them every day: barbecue, nachos, fajitas, and chili.
  • You know that the only real Mexican food is Tex-Mex.
  • When you refer to more than one person, you say “y’all” and when you tell someone you’re getting ready to do something, you say you’re ‘fix’n’ to do it.

Top 5 Reasons to Get a New Chevy in 2018

Drivers tend to get attached to their vehicles. After all, your vehicle is something you use every day, and it’s a place where you’ve made plenty of memories. However, there comes a time when you need to break up with an old vehicle that’s dragging you down. Maybe the gas mileage is poor, maybe the repairs are breaking the bank or maybe the safety features aren’t adequate. The New Year is the time to do it!

These 5 reasons ought to give you enough of an excuse to ditch your old ride for a new Chevrolet.

1. Your vehicle’s repairs are exceeding its value. It often seems easier to repair an old vehicle than buy a new one, but here at Classic Chevrolet, we make purchasing your new vehicle easy and affordable. Stop throwing money (which you’ll never get back) into a beater that continues to decrease in value.

2. The mileage is high. High mileage probably means you’ve taken good care of your vehicle, but it also means costly repairs are just around the corner.

3. Safety features are limited. Older cars certainly have fewer safety features than newer ones, and that can put you and your loved ones in danger every time you get behind the wheel. Come talk to us at Classic Chevrolet to get into a safer, more reliable vehicle for an unbelievably affordable price.

4. Your family doesn’t want to be seen in it. They say not to judge a book by its cover, but if your family doesn’t want to be seen in your vehicle, it may be time to get a new one.

5. You’re spending way too much on gas. Every year, Chevy vehicles are getting increasingly fuel efficient, and you could be saving big bucks. Chevy offers a wide selection of extremely affordable, fuel efficient vehicles to help you start your 2018 budget in the right direction.

Car Won’t Start? It May Be Your Battery

When it’s cold out, it is entirely feasible that you walk out to start your car and it won’t start – even if you have a newer battery. A no-start situation could be for just about any reason; however, the first thing you should check is the charging system. You’ll need a voltmeter to do this; and you can pick one up at any auto parts store or at many dealerships including Classic Chevrolet.

Step 1: Set the voltmeter to volts. Touch the red lead to the positive battery terminal and the black lead to the negative battery terminal. If the voltmeter reads at least 12 volts, you have enough voltage in the battery; however, you could have a dead cell, which means that you don’t have enough amperage to activate the starter.

Step 2: Holding the leads on the battery terminals, have someone try to start the vehicle. If the voltage drops below 10, you don’t have enough amperage to start the vehicle. Charge or replace the battery.

Step 3: Once you charge the battery, you’ll need to test it again. With the vehicle running, touch the red lead to the positive battery terminal and the black lead to the negative battery terminal. If the voltage is less than 13.5, the alternator is most likely not charging well, though the battery could have a low charge. If you are sure the battery is completely charged, you’ll need to replace the alternator.

Step 4: Turn the vehicle off. Leaving the leads on the terminals, have someone start the vehicle while you are watching the voltmeter. If the battery voltage drops to 10 volts or less, the battery is bad and will not hold a charge. If the voltage does not drop below 10.5 yet does not rise above 12.5 when the vehicle is running, the alternator is weak and should be replaced.

Visit Classic Chevrolet

It is also possible to have a bad battery and alternator. If the battery had to work too hard because the alternator was not charging, you could have drained the battery so that it will never recover. If you need a new battery, alternator or both, call the service department at Classic Chevy to schedule an appointment to have your vehicle repaired.
