DIY Activities for Kids in Car Trip

When planning for a road trip with children, you’ll need to pack something for them to do while in the vehicle. If you don’t, they’ll get bored and start fighting with each other – or you’ll never hear the end of “Are we there yet?” Fun activities will help the time fly by for them, and before they know it, you’ll be at your destination.

Another item you need to do before you leave is to have your vehicle serviced or checked. If you have service that might be due during your trip or shortly after your return, it’s a good idea to have that done before you leave. If you just had your vehicle serviced, it’s still a good idea to have everything checked at Classic Chevrolet before you leave.

Write a Book

Staple several pages of paper together to form a book. Give each child a favorite topic and have them write a book. For younger kids, have them create a picture book – be sure to pack crayons or water-soluble markers. For older kids, have them write a book on their tablets.

Make a Deck of Cards

Cut out card-sized pieces of heavy construction paper ahead of time so kids won’t have to use scissors while in a moving vehicle. Have the kids make their own decks of cards for Go Fish and Memory games. Create the cards in the vehicle, then play the games when you get to your destination.

Make a Windchime

Get the parts to create a windchime. Have the children string it up on the trip. If you get plain wood, they can decorate the wooden part. Or, have them string beads together for the top part of the chime.

Make Jewelry

Bring each child a kit to make jewelry. Have them make necklaces and bracelets for themselves and their friends.

  • You go to a formal event all decked out, including your finest jewelry and you wear cowboy boots.
  • You know that food that isn’t spicy isn’t from Texas.
  • You know that rattlesnake meat tastes like chicken.

  • You can tell when another Texan is from the North, East, South, West or Central Texas as soon as that person speaks.
  • Your pastor wears cowboy boots.
  • You know that the only real Mexican food is Tex-Mex.
  • When you refer to more than one person, you say, “Y’all.”

General Motors names Classic Chevrolet to its exclusive Chevrolet Dealer of the Year list.

The program honors 50 Chevrolet dealers from across the country, 10 per region, based on exceptional performance in sales, service and customer satisfaction. Classic Chevrolet has now been the recipient of this award for 16 consecutive years.

“Chevrolet dealers play a pivotal role in the brand’s overall success and their commitment to delivering exceptional service has once again been recognized as among the best in the industry by J.D. Power,” said Brian Sweeney, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet. “Our top 50 dealers this year have gone above and beyond to provide their customers the best possible total ownership experience. We sincerely appreciate and applaud their efforts.”

Dealers must also show a long-term commitment to retaining and providing customers with exceptional service using Genuine GM Parts.

“At Classic Chevrolet our goal is to earn customers for life and we are so honored to have our efforts recognized,” said Ken Thompson of The Thompson Group at Chevrolet. “This award is a testament to the entire team’s dedication to making sure every touch point we have with our Chevrolet customers exceeds their expectations.”

GM has recognized dealerships in the U.S. with this honor since 2000. Classic Chevrolet has earned the award every year since its inception.

Over 95 percent of Chevrolet’s current product portfolio is less than two years old, offering North Texas customers the latest technologies and safety features. Part of this lineup includes the Chevrolet Camaro and the Chevrolet Colorado which won Motor Trend’s 2016 Car and Truck of the Year awards.

Improve Your Hot Dog Grilling Game!

Summer is prime time for grilling and hot dogs are a time-honored classic. So classic, in fact, that you may not think that there’s any room for improvement. You’ve got your method down after all and why mess with a good thing? Simple: there’s always room for improvement.

For the sake of a better hot dog, you ought to consider trying these tips and tricks if you want to take your hot dog grilling game to the next level.

Selecting the Right Dog

All dogs are not created equal. There are good dogs and bad dogs and better dogs taste better, no matter how you cook them. When you’re at the supermarket, look for all-beef dogs: beef dogs stand up better to classic seasonings, such as garlic, onion, and mustard without being overpowered. Turkey, chicken, pork, and blends tend to not hold up as well.

There’s also the choice between skinless franks or those in natural casings. You might not be aware, but most hot dogs you find on the shelf are skinless. If you can find hot dogs that are still in their casing, however, you’re in for a nice surprise. When grilled, the casing gives the hot dog a bit of a shell, adding a satisfying texture and trapping in the juices.

Make Sure to Slash Your Hot Dogs Before Grilling

For plumper, juicier, and tastier dogs, make sure to cut slits down the length of each dog. Nothing too deep and spaced evenly do nicely. This allows the dog to expand during cooking instead of bursting, which tends to lose more juices than a pre-made cut. If you managed to find cased dogs, don’t bother slitting them like this, as the casing tends to hold up fairly well and prevent bursts.

Be Creative When Dressing Your Dogs

Sure there’s the classic hot dog with mustard and relish, but just like burgers, hot dogs allow a lot of creative license and unique interpretations. Treat that bun and dog as a blank canvas. Let different cuisines inspire you. You know what works with Tex-Mex, for example. Why not use that to create a masterpiece? Maybe some cilantro, a little bit of salsa, a slice of avocado? Or maybe your tastes run more along the lines of a steak house – grill some onions alongside your dogs and douse it with your favorite steak sauce.

Best Water Parks in DFW

Summer in DFW is all about the quest to stay cool. One of the best ways to accomplish this is to go for a swim. While the area has plenty of community pools and lakes, what’s more fun than throwing some water rides into the mix? The next time the weather is hot (i.e. tomorrow and the day after that…), head to one of the Metroplex’s best water parks.

Hurricane Harbor

The biggest and baddest water park in DFW, Hurrican Harbor, located in Arlington across from Six Flags Over Texas, has crazy and inventive rides that you’re not going to see at most water parks. For example, the “Banzai Boggan” lets you skip across the water like a pebble after you shoot down an ultra-steep 45 foot slide on your own toboggan. The “Black Hole” slide encloses you in darkness as you slide down the loops and whirls of a sci-fi themed slide. The really brave can try one of Hurricane Harbor’s infamous free-fall slides. There are also more relaxing attractions, such as the Lazy River or the Surf Lagoon.

NRH20

Located in North Richland Hills just outside of Fort Worth, NRH20 is one of a kind. One of the park’s most prominent features is the Green Extreme, the world’s largest uphill water-coaster. At 1161 feet long and 81 feet tall, it’s like nothing you’ve ever experience. Besides the coaster, NRH20 features a number of other attractions, including water slides, a kiddie area, wave pool, endless river, and more.

Great Wolf Lodge

For when the sun is just simply too hot, book a stay at Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine. The resort has one of Texas’s biggest and best indoor water parks and it’s included with your visit. Great Wolf Lodge makes for a great staycation destination if you want to enjoy some time off but don’t want to travel halfway across the country to do it.

Classic Chevrolet’s “Electric Avenue” Hosts the Arrival of the First 2017 Chevy Bolt EVs in Texas

Pictured, Craig Boland taking delivery of the 2017 Bolt EV from Richard D. “Buzz” Smith of Classic Chevrolet.

Classic Chevrolet, the largest volume Chevrolet dealer in the country for over a decade is leading the market with the newest all-electric vehicle to be offered by Chevrolet. The first 13 of 47 total 2017 Bolt EV’s on order arrived late last week and eager customers were ready to take delivery at Classic Chevrolet’s “Electric Avenue,” a building dedicated solely to hybrid and electric vehicle sales and service. “Richard D. “Buzz” Smith, self-proclaimed “EVangelist” and supervisor of Electric Avenue explains, “we built Electric Avenue exactly for days like this. We designed this building to give our customers a place to explain the technology with videos and experts on hand, more like an Apple store than a car dealership. These cars are loaded with technology that requires more than just handing someone the keys. This interactive environment allows for group discussions, informative videos and one-on-one tutorials.” A very early adopter of hybrid and plug-in technology himself, Buzz and his team are keenly aware of their fellow EV enthusiasts. “Our customers are uniquely linked together with a common desire to be more environmentally friendly and reduce their carbon footprint. Having a place for like-minded individuals to gather information and share their experiences is what Electric Avenue is all about. And with the first cars now arriving, today is an exciting day for all of us.”

One of Classic’s first customers to take delivery of his Bolt was Craig Boland of Arlington, who had been driving a Toyota Prius for 13 years, but was ready to make the leap to the all electric Chevrolet Bolt, impressed with it’s 238-mile range, affordable price and cargo space. “I was surprised that I couldn’t just go to any Chevrolet dealership and buy one,” explains Mr. Boland. “I went to my local Arlington Chevy dealer first and they explained that only dealerships with technicians certified to service the Bolt are allowed to sell them, and they immediately recommended Classic as the place to go.” Boland and fellow Bolt customer Michael Malone were impressed with Classic’s commitment to hybrid and plug-in technology. “They show far more than a passing interest in the future of electric vehicles,” said Malone, “this Electric Avenue building shows that Classic Chevrolet is all-in.”

The Bolt EV, 2017 Motor Trend Car of the Year, starts at just $29,995 after allowing for a $7500 federal tax rebate, and with a 238-mile range, Chevrolet is making affordable long-range transportation available to the masses with Classic leading the way with sales, service and Electric Avenue.

8 Reasons to Choose Chevy Over the Competition

These 8 reasons to buy a Chevy will convince you that Chevrolets outshine the competition. Head to Classic Chevrolet and make a wise investment today.

2. The Chevy Camaro, Impala, Silverado HD, Avalanche, and Tahoe received the lowest number of issues per 100 vehicles among the previously listed categories. That means you can purchase your new vehicle with confidence.

3. Chevrolet vehicles continue to earn top marks for safety and performance. Chevrolets have been name Green Car of the Year, Top Safety Picks by the IIHS, and Best Family Cars by Kelley Blue Book.

4. Chevy vehicles are backed by some of the best warranties in the business, including bumper-to-bumper coverage for three years or 36,000 miles, powertrain coverage for 5 years or 60,000 miles, and sheet metal coverage for 3 years or 36,000 miles. Chevy lovers don’t find it surprising that most Chevy vehicles achieve better fuel economies than comparable vehicles in their classes.

The Chevy Bolt’s Coolest Feature

The Chevy Bolt is kind of a big deal. After all, it’s the first affordable all-electric vehicle on the market that has enough range to actually get you places. It’s got plenty of cool features, but one stands out from the rest as far as we’re concerned.

It’s got some pretty cool systems in place to charge your batteries on the go. For example, it possesses a “regen on demand” paddle, which allows you to slow the car by pulling a small paddle tucked behind the steering wheel. “Regen” is just shorthand for “regenerative braking,” a system that can translate the kinetic energy it absorbs (from braking, for example) into electric energy it can feed into your systems. It takes some getting used to, not having a braking pedal, but it’s a smart feature that reinforces what the Chevy Bolt is all about. After a few days, you’ll find it’s the most natural thing in the world to brake with a paddle on the wheel.

Also, the Bolt comes with two driving modes, “drive” and “low.” The “low” mode is the car’s regenerative braking mode. Low mode makes the car use its own momentum and the motor’s resistance to regenerate power for the batteries. The car will also automatically slow down the second you pull off the accelerator, which allows you to easily coast to a complete stop, no brakes required. Every time you decelerate, you feed more power back into the batteries and increase how far you can go.
