Why You Should Take a Test Drive at Classic Chevrolet

take a test drive

When you find that perfect vehicle at Classic Chevrolet, whether you find it online or because you stopped by the showroom, you should take a test drive. Taking a test drive prevents buyer’s remorse for many reasons, including comfort while driving or riding and features available for various models and trim levels.

Ensure It’s Spacious

While you might like a vehicle’s looks, you should take a test drive to ensure that it’s a good fit. If you are a taller person, some vehicles may not have enough legroom or headroom. If you are shorter, the seats may not move forward enough so that you can comfortably reach the pedals.

And if you have a larger family and love to take road trips, or plan on carpooling, you’ll definitely want to ensure that the rear and third row seats have plenty of room for adults or teens, not just smaller children. Without a test drive, you won’t know until it’s too late – then you won’t be happy with your purchase.

See How It Rides

Even though the vehicle you fall in love with looks great and has plenty of space, you might not like the ride. Many new vehicles have settings for steering and the transmission, though some don’t and you might not like how the vehicle rides. Also, you may not find that the seats are comfortable enough for you. Taking a test drive allows you to evaluate whether you are comfortable with the ride.

Verify Features

While everything might be what you want – fit, comfort, ride – if you buy a vehicle without test driving it, you may later learn that the model does not have certain features you need; or that it might have features you don’t want. While many features are listed on our website and in our blog posts, not every feature is always included in every vehicle. Taking a test drive allows you to look for and test certain features.

Choosing an SUV vs Sedan

Classic Chevy here, giving you the best information on sedans and SUVs. First of all, if you’re in the market for a new vehicle, you might be wondering which type of vehicle to buy. Sedans and SUVs have different benefits and we’re here to run them down for you so you can make a great decision when you buy.

SUVs

If you’re looking to buy an SUV, you might want to consider a few pros and cons.

The pros:

  • You may have optional four-wheel drive.
  • You have more space in the SUV to carry items and people.
  • You can take SUVs on camping expeditions and into rough terrain.

The cons:

  • Gas is expensive with many older SUVs, and if the MPG rating isn’t great, you’ll be looking at spending a lot of money at the pump.
  • Larger vehicles may need more upkeep.
  • You may have difficulty getting up to speed as quickly as you can in a sedan.

Sedans

If you’re considering a sedan, you can think about these pros and cons:

The pros:

  • Sedans typically get more miles to the gallon than SUVs, which means you’ll save money on gas.
  • Sedans are quicker in many cases, so you can get up to higher speeds on highways.
  • Sedans are closer to the ground, so they may feel more stable.

The cons:

  • Sedans can’t hold as much as an SUV, so if you plan on long trips with multiple people, you could run out of space or feel cramped.
  • Sedans don’t normally have four-wheel drive unless you upgrade your package.
  • Sedans may not be able to handle rough terrain or inclement weather conditions as well as SUVs.

When it comes down to your decision, you’ll need to know what you plan to do with a sedan or SUV before you buy. Your lifestyle will be a major factor in the need for either one of these vehicles.

Getting Your Chevy Ready For Spring Break

Spring wildflowers along Texas State Hwy 16 north of Fredricksburg

Road trips are fun and exciting and are largely popular during Spring Break. Students, teachers, and other persons who desire a break from the dull winter months head for sunny beaches and warmer climates. Before you head out this year to your favorite vacation hideaway, make sure your Chevy is just as ready to go as you are. There are several things to check before you hit the road.

Oil changes are usually pretty cheap and quick at most places. This is wonderful since it is a crucial, key component when readying your pride and joy for a Spring Break road trip. While you’re at Classic Chevrolet getting your oil changed, it’s a great idea to make sure to have your fluids checked and topped off as necessary. This includes the power steering fluid, transmission fluid, and brake fluid. You don’t want to get caught down the road with an overheated engine, so also check your coolant levels.

Tires are designed to wear out, so check to see that you have ample tread on your tires. If you aren’t sure, use the penny trick. Grab a penny and stick it into the grooves of the tread with Abe’s head down. If you can see his entire head clearly, it’s time for new tires. Also, be sure to keep an eye on the PSI in your tires. The proper inflation amount should be listed either in your owner’s manual or the inside sticker of the driver’s side door. Proper PSI will also give you better fuel economy on your trip.

Don’t overload your vehicle. Only take with you the things you really need. Take out those school books, gym bags, or other unneeded objects before you pack for your adventure. The lighter your car or truck, the better mileage you ultimately receive. Keep your speed in check, too. We all get excited to get to our destination, but easy does it. Remember that every 10 miles per hour you go over the limit is going to decrease your fuel efficiency.

Keep this simple checklist in mind before you head out for Spring Break. If you need assistance with any of these items, stop by Classic Chevy. Our friendly service department staff is more than willing to assist you.

Tom Durant Named Chairman of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association 2018

Texas native and owner of Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine, Texas, as well as 20 other car dealerships across Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida, Tom Durant has been elected as Chairman of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association for 2018.

The TADA is the statewide trade association representing over 1,300 franchised automobile dealerships in nearly 300 communities throughout the state of Texas. TADA advocates on behalf of the dealers at the Texas Legislature, Congress, and all regulatory agencies.

As leader of the association, Tom Durant explains his inspiration to represent the Texas franchised auto dealers.  “There are legitimate concerns about our future and the changes that are occurring. I have great respect for Bill Wolters (TADA President) and his staff because they have put together a great organization, one that I am very proud to be a part of. As dealers we all have a responsibility to self-govern and make good decisions. The TADA makes that process a lot easier.  It’s important for us as members to understand the complexities of the franchised dealer challenges in today’s market and to be the clear and concise voice on their behalf while also understanding government influences, market trends and the overall landscape of the industry. TADA makes that a more realistic endeavor. Because of what TADA does, we as dealers can sell and service cars, impact our communities and make a positive difference.”

Chairman Durant will take the office at a time when strong leadership is crucial.  “There is no doubt we are facing unprecedented threats to the future of the Texas franchised dealer network with new industry players and third parties intervening between the customer and the dealer,” says Mr. Durant.  “The disruption of the franchised dealer network as we know it would have a profound effect on the local, state and national economy as well as a devastating effect on the individual communities we as dealers serve each day. And if you are not part of the solution, you become a part of the problem.  Getting involved at this level at the TADA for me was becoming part of the solution.”

Tom Durant, a man known for his keen vision, strong leadership and a genuine humility is undeniably the man for the job, but gives his team the credit for his nomination. “While it is a very personal honor to be named Chairman of the TADA, the recognition ultimately stems from the work our entire team has put in at all of Classic dealerships.”

If you are in the market for a new vehicle, stop by Classic Chevrolet to test drive the vehicle you need for your family, for work, or for the farm. If you already have a newer Chevy or did not plan to buy something new this year, be sure to give our service department a call to set up an appointment for maintenance or repairs.

Living in DFW, you’ve probably noticed that the Metroplex has its peculiarities. You know you’re a true native if you can relate to the following…

  • The traffic isn’t messing around. Hopefully you’ve got a good vehicle, because we all spend a lot of time in the driver’s seat.
  • And what’s up with the roads? They sure like to break them up, but then they forget to do anything afterwards!
  • No matter what the supposed season is, it’s best to bring a jacket along. And flip flops. And maybe an umbrella. And perhaps sunscreen. Just pack your closet is what we’re saying.
  • Even if you live east of Dallas or west of Fort Worth, you still struggle to decide which city to go to when you’re looking for a night out. Who can choose?
  • You know the four basic food groups and make sure you get them every day: barbecue, nachos, fajitas, and chili.
  • You know that the only real Mexican food is Tex-Mex.
  • When you refer to more than one person, you say “y’all” and when you tell someone you’re getting ready to do something, you say you’re ‘fix’n’ to do it.
