Convenient transportation is a luxury that many of us take for granted. But for the dozens of teachers and volunteers of The Arc of Collin Dallas & Rockwall counties, transportation for large groups of special needs clients to activities, programs and services is crucial. Brooke Dieterlen, Executive Director of The Arc Collin, Dallas & Rockwall Counties Chapter explained the significance of the 15-Passenger Chevy Van being donated by Classic Chevy Preowned in Grapevine. “Our clients attend classes in 3 area centers and love their teachers and the programs. But the curriculum is limited by a lack of reliable transportation to activities in the real world that are vital to helping them develop real life-skills. We want them to learn the most basic things like going grocery shopping.

“Until today, The Arc has rented a van or bus and paid that expense out of the budget that would have also been used to pay for the field trips themselves. “Until now, we’ve been hindered by the lack of flexibility to coordinate the logistics to organize field trips amongst all 3 centers. But now with this incredible donation of a practically new 15-Passenger van, the possibilities to take our clients anywhere are endless“, adds Brooke. “It even has club doors that swing out and allow for easy access for wheelchair bound individuals.” Danny Bowen, General Manager of Classic Preowned arranged to donate the 2014 Chevy 15-passenger van to the Arc. “We didn’t want to give them anything that was high miles or out of warranty. This is an excellent multi-passenger van that retails for at least $26,000 and only has 14,000 miles on it.

With the GM Certified Pre-Owned Owner Care Program, they’ll get heightened coverage that includes a 2 year/30,000 mile maintenance plan with free oil changes, tire rotations and multi-point vehicle inspections. And that’s on top of the remaining factory warranty with a 12-month/12,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and includes roadside assistance. It’s a completely stress-free solution to their transportation needs.”

The Arc was formed in 1951 by a group of parents of children with disabilities who joined forces to fight for their children’s rights to be educated in the public school system. The Arc of today still serves as a voice for those with intellectual or developmental disabilities to improve their quality of life and allow them the chance to get a quality education, be welcomed into the workforce and allow them the chance to live productive lives.

“Our Arc Days, Summer Camps and Arc Afternoon outings are just some of the programs what will benefit by the freedom of transportation that Classic Preowned has provided. It’s a gift that we simply cannot thank them enough for”, said Brooke Dieterlen.

Danny Bowen and all of the Classic Preowned team shared in The Arc’s enthusiasm, “we’re blessed to be fortunate enough to have this organization here to take care of those in need in our community. Providing this van to them is the least we could do.”
