If you want the best car for safety, stop by Classic Chevy to test drive the Chevrolet Traverse – for the second year in a row, Parents magazine and Edmunds.com named it one of the 10 best family cars. It won the award for the 2013 and 2014 model year. The Traverse competed in the SUV category; and the judges looked at efficiency, value, style and safety.

Of the four categories, most people count safety as the most important category for a family car. The Chevy Traverse has something no other SUV has: a front seat center airbag. The airbag inflates between the two front seats to give the driver and front passenger more protection.

In addition to being named one of the 10 best family cars by Parents magazine and Edmunds.com, the SUV was named Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in 2013. The center airbag is not the only reason the Traverse meets such high standards: It also features lane departure warning and forward collision alert.

One of the engines available in the Traverse is the 3.6-liter V-6 engine, which makes 288 horsepower. It also gets 24 mpg* on the highway. Since the Traverse was created for families, it features family-friendly items such as multiple USB ports, an entertainment system for the rear seat and seats that clean up easy. Consumers also get to choose whether they want a three-person bench seat or captain’s chairs, which seat one person each, in the rear. Furthermore, the third row bench seat also seats an additional three people.

That is not all of the awards the Traverse won. It also named on Kelley Blue Book’s 12 best family cars for 2014 list. The 2014 Chevrolet Impala also made that list. Thus, if you don’t want an SUV, you might consider test driving the Impala if safety is a big concern for you.

Stop by Classic Chevrolet today to test drive the Traverse or the Impala and to get a full list of features, options and additional packages available with each trim level. Also, be sure to ask your salesperson about any specials going on that might apply to the vehicle you are interested in.
